FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VENTIMIGLIA

HOW TO GET THERE

Ventimiglia is 7 km from the border of France. It gets it name "Ventimille" from being 20 miles in area.

Sanremo is 18 km away and Genova is 130 km away.

The closest airport is Nice, France (roughly 45 mins by car/train and Genoa (1 hour 40mins by car and 2 hours by train). A lot of major airlines fly in/out of Nice as well as low cost carriers like Easyjet.

Train Station Information:

Ventimiglia station serves as a hub for travel from France to Italy and to other places in Italy. It is situated in the middle of town and roughly 5 mins walk to everything you may need (shopping, supermarkets etc)

Taxis can usually be found just outside the Ventimiglia train station. The number to call during the day is +39 0184 35 11 25. From 1.00 am and until 7.00 am the mobile number to call is +39 335 72 53 028

Uber: There are quite a few Uber drivers in the area now (mostly all with small cars). If you haven't signed up, click HERE to receive $10 off your 1st Uber ride.

HOW DO I BOOK A TRAIN?

You can pre-book popular routes in advance (60 to 90 days out) direct with Trentalita or SNCF. Otherwise there are self service machines at the train station. I always book in advance and often find that with special deals the 1st class carriage is cheaper than 2nd class!

HIRE CAR OPTIONS

There are no car rental places in Ventimiglia. The closest is in Sanremo, 20 mins away. Whatever you do don't hire in Nice and do a one way drop off in Italy. You will be hit with massive fees by crossing the border. I have found with previous experience to take a train to either Sanremo or Alassio (1 hour by train towards Genoa) and there is a Hertz office right inside the station. Rates were also much cheaper then any of the agencies in Sanremo.

WHERE CAN I STAY?

There are plenty of options for accommodation for all budget types. Click HERE for more information.

PLACES TO EAT

Ventimiglia has lots of cafes and restaurants for all budgets. Gluten Free is more prominent on the menus the last few years. As with any tourist destination, if the locals are eating there then it's usually a good place to eat! Stay away from a few places on the beach strip (especially the empty ones!...they're empty for a reason!)

WEATHER

Compared to other parts of Europe Ventimiglia's weather is quite mild in the Winter months averaging between 9 to 14 degrees celsius. During Summer it averages around 27 to 30 degrees daily.

CURRENCY

Euro. The bank's do exchange currency.

VOLTAGE

Across Europe it is 220 volts. Hotels in Ventimiglia only have European power outlets so ensure you bring an adaptor or you can buy one at a supermarket when you're there.

FACILITIES

The Post Office is on Via della Repubblica and is open 6 days a week: Monday to Friday 8 am – 6.30 pm
Saturday 8 am – 1.30 pm

In August, the Post Office is open from 8 am till 1.30 pm

There is also another postal shop that does large parcels worldwide and an outlet for Western Union.

BANKING

There are various banks in town with all of them with outside ATM facilities. I have never had any trouble using any of the machines with various international cards.
